What US Shrimp Vendors Actually Sell: The Most-Listed Morphs
Listing counts are a live census of the online hobby: which morphs dominate shelves, the Neocaridina–Caridina split, and how much of a 'shrimp store' is actually shrimp.

Listing counts are a live census of the online hobby: what vendors choose to stock is what they expect to sell. Because we read the complete public catalogs of 7 US shrimp vendors every day, we can publish that census rather than guess at it.
The most-listed morphs
| # | Morph | Genus | Listings | Vendors | Median /shrimp |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amano Shrimp | Amano | 42 | 6 | $6.15 |
| 2 | Bloody Mary Shrimp | Neocaridina | 33 | 6 | $5.14 |
| 3 | Yellow Goldenback Shrimp | Neocaridina | 32 | 4 | $4.55 |
| 4 | Fancy Tiger Shrimp | Caridina | 29 | 3 | $6.41 |
| 5 | Galaxy Shrimp | Caridina | 28 | 2 | $15.00 |
| 6 | Red Cherry Shrimp | Neocaridina | 27 | 6 | $3.55 |
| 7 | Orange Sunkist Shrimp | Neocaridina | 26 | 5 | $4.40 |
| 8 | Blue Bolt Shrimp | Caridina | 25 | 4 | $6.80 |
| 9 | Orange Rili Shrimp | Neocaridina | 22 | 6 | $3.80 |
| 10 | Blue Dream Shrimp | Neocaridina | 22 | 5 | $4.20 |
| 11 | Red Rili Shrimp | Neocaridina | 22 | 6 | $3.20 |
| 12 | Black Rose Shrimp | Neocaridina | 20 | 4 | $5.10 |
| 13 | Green Jade Shrimp | Neocaridina | 19 | 5 | $5.37 |
| 14 | Crystal Red Shrimp | Caridina | 19 | 5 | $4.70 |
| 15 | Red King Kong Shrimp | Caridina | 19 | 2 | $6.00 |
The top of the census tells a story in itself: the workhorse Amano out-lists every color morph, and the leaderboard mixes commodity Neocaridina lines (Bloody Mary, Red Cherry) with collector Caridina (Fancy Tiger, Galaxy) — the hobby's two economies sharing one shelf (their price gap, measured).
The genus split
Of 845 priced dwarf shrimp listings today, 59% are Neocaridina and 35% Caridina. The beginner genus dominates shelf space, but Caridina's share is far larger than its share of beginner tanks — those listings are higher-priced, lower-volume stock for the hobby's enthusiast wing. Sulawesi shrimp, for all their forum fame, barely register in US online retail: 5 listings today.
How much of a shrimp store is shrimp?
| Catalog category | Listings (all 7 vendors) | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarf shrimp (the index's subject) | 845 | 9% |
| Fish | 5,808 | 65% |
| Plants | 856 | 10% |
| Supplies & equipment | 914 | 10% |
| Other invertebrates (snails, crabs…) | 338 | 4% |
Dwarf shrimp are 9% of the combined catalogs — because "shrimp vendor" spans everything from pure breeder shops to general livestock importers with a shrimp section. That mix is why cross-vendor comparison needs a dedicated index: the shrimp shelf is a different fraction of every store, priced against a different overhead.
